  • PRESS RELEASE

RAK International Airport has signed a contract with SKA Energy FZE, a member of SKA Group of companies, to build, operate and manage an Aviation Fuel Storage Facility at the airport for a period of 10 years.

SKA Energy has the expertise and experience to address the Emirate's growing demand for the supply of aviation fuel at the airport.

The Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, under the vision and guidance of H.H. Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah and Member of the Supreme Council, continues to see strong growth in both commercial and tourism sectors. Its strategic geographical location at the approach to the Arabian Gulf places the Emirate at the crossroads of international trade, and the airport's modern state-of-the-art equipment and facilities are matched by a 3,760 meters long runway capable of handling the biggest aircraft currently in service.

The present airport is set for more expansion in the near future as the Emirate meets the increased growth of visitors to the region.

H.E. Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of Department of Civil Aviation and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport said: "We at the Department of Civil Aviation, Ras Al Khaimah and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport are extremely pleased at the opportunity to partner with an organization like SKA Energy. They are an industry leader in providing fuel solutions not only globally, but also specialise in providing their services in challenging environments like war torn areas. They have proven their abilities and specialization locally and internationally, and we look forward to the same quality and experience they will bring to RAK International Airport.

"I welcome them, on behalf of the government of Ras Al Khaimah, and wish them a long and fruitful association with us."

SKA Energy is an industry leader and world-class service provider of critical fuel solutions throughout the Middle East and African Continent. With a wealth of knowledge and in-depth experience of fuel facility construction and operation, inventory management, fuel additives and distribution, they will be able to provide RAK Airport with a world class fuel farm.

Mike Douglas, President and CEO of SKA Group of Companies, expects the facility to be commercially operational in the third quarter of 2013.

"The RAK International Airport and the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah are rapidly expanding, and SKA hopes to establish a long term relationship that adds value for the airport," he said.

Strategically located between the East and the West, airlines and travelers from Europe, the Middle East, Africa, the Indian Subcontinent and the Far East are finding RAK International Airport an ideal gateway to the Emirates.
