RasGas receives top accolade for sustainability reporting

RasGas Company Limited (RasGas) was recently recognised for its 2011 Sustainability Report at the first ever Excellence in Sustainability Reporting Awards ceremony held by Qatar Petroleum (QP) at which it received the top accolade for large-scale organisations.
The RasGas 2011 Sustainability Report, launched in 2012, provided a comprehensive review of its environmental, social and economic performance. It was prepared in accordance with guidelines on sustainability reporting from shareholder company Qatar Petroleum and adopted guidance specific to the oil and gas industry prepared by the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA).
"This award is a testimony to RasGas' belief that sustainable practices and business success are inseparable and that we are strongly committed to accountability and transparency in our business practices. Our approach to sustainability is linked to the four pillars that underpin the Qatar National Vision 2030," said Hamad Rashid Al Mohannadi, RasGas Chief Executive Officer.
In 2011, the Company completed a five-year flare minimisation programme, the first of its kind in Qatar, which resulted in an overall emission reduction of 66 per cent; RasGas also maintained a low lost time incident (LTI) rate of 0.01 in 2011, showing consistent safety performance improvement over time. Additionally, the new RasGas headquarters in Doha was recognised as the first LEED-certified commercial interiors project in Qatar for its energy-saving features integrated into the office design. In terms of outreach to the local community, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) -related activities increased by more than 25 per cent in support of a wide range of initiatives involving employees and the community.
"Our 2011 operational results highlight our key strength: the ability to safely and reliably deliver on our commitments. The strong safety and operational performance underpinned good environmental performance," he continued.
In 2009, RasGas became the first energy company in Qatar to voluntarily report on its sustainability performance relating to business, environmental and social issues.
