King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST), represented by Badir technology incubator, in partnership with Intel, launched the National Technology Entrepreneurship Competition (NTEC) in March this year. It is the second year of the competition, which aims to support innovative technology projects and encourage technical creativity in students aged 17-35 years old.
After registration, applicants will have the opportunity to join workshops on planning, presenting and getting investment
In 2012, NTEC reached out to over 3,000 young Saudi innovators and entrepreneurs from various fields of technology in the Kingdom. First prize winner from NTEC 2012 was Turki AlFahad, who won with his exceptional eDintity.com project.
He commented on his NTEC experience: "Through NTEC, I learned how to move from drafting an idea to a functional project, and consider the importance of teamwork and a business model in order to succeed, in God's willing. Additionally, I met many special individuals thanks to the challenge, and gained a lot from them, which is an accomplishment in itself. I forward my best wishes for all to win and gain as much as possible from this special challenge."
At the Riyadh launch in March 2013, two of the winning teams from NTEC 2012, "Ask a Doctor" and "Talk the Talk", reunited to share their experiences and were extremely grateful to have the opportunity NTEC provided them. Second place winner, Salman Yamani from "Ask a Doctor" said: "Intel's NTEC is a gateway for Saudi entrepreneurs. You do not wish to miss the opportunity to learn and compete for success through a unique experience in the heart of Riyadh. I encourage you to participate in this competition, as nothing will take you to success better than a true competition in which many future businessmen are participating. It is a truly beautiful experience".
"Talk the Talk" won the third place's prize, and was lead by Asma AlFatani, who said: "Universities started supporting us more after participating in NTEC. We gained more knowledge in how to properly promote a product".
Mr. Nawaf Al-Sahaf, CEO of Badir incubators at King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology KACST, said: "NTEC is one of the most important initiatives Badir has launched to support technology entrepreneurship in the Kingdom. The competition offers the perfect environment for Saudi's young entrepreneurs to develop their entrepreneurial ideas in sciences and technology."
Eng. Abdulaziz AlNogaiher, General Manager of Intel KSA, confirmed that: "We are very proud to be part of the prestigious National Technology Entrepreneurship Competition. NTEC feeds into the well-established Intel Global Challenge which provides the opportunity for young Saudis to represent the Kingdom on the World stage and benefit from the expertise of Silicon Valley's worldwide entrepreneurial leaders. At Intel, we believe it is very important to encourage an entrepreneurial spirit in the technology field, for the Saudi youth of today and the future of the Kingdom."
