Remittances from Oman hit $7.2bn in 2011

According to data released by the central bank of Oman, remittances by the expatriate community in the country have more than doubled in the five years between 2007 and 2011, Muscat Daily has reported. Remittances rose by nearly 96.6% from $3.6bn in 2007 to $7.2bn in 2011, the figures showed. According to the World Bank's 2011 report, Oman is the 13th largest remittance-sending country globally. Over $5.3bn were remitted from Oman in 2010, and this figure is expected to expand in the coming years as the Omani economy grows, the World Bank report added.
