Explaining the need and scope for propulsion systems in the LNG segment, Mr. Larsen said, "Globally, shipowners and operators are assessing the required investment to meet present and future environmental regulations. The quest to reduce operating costs, optimizing efficiency and reducing emission is in their centre of thinking. Development of LNG as a marine fuel has shown great potential in emissions reduction and lower fuel cost benefits. The availability and supply of LNG as well as advancements in gas engine technologies are leading to a growing interest in LNG propulsion for a wide range of vessels. Gas engine is clean and and a good start in reducing emission. Rolls-Royce is already established in this market, with strong track record as a manufacturer of gas engines and as a supplier of complete system solutions and ship designs, with vessels in service and under construction. With an extensive product range, Rolls-Royce has the ability to integrate future-proof ship design with performance matched systems to help operators achieve energy efficiency and low emissions."
