The source code for antivirus firm Symantec's pcAnywhere utility has been released by a hacker on Tuesday, raising fears that others could find security holes in the product and attempt takeovers of customer computers, Reuters has reported. The move followed failed email negotiations over a $50,000 payout to the hacker calling himself 'YamaTough' to destroy the code. The negotiations have bought Symantec time while it issued fixes to the pcAnywhere programme, which allows customers to access their desktop machines from another location. "Symantec was prepared for the code to be posted at some point and has developed and distributed a series of patches since January 23, to protect our users against known vulnerabilities," said company spokesman Cris Paden.

Some 30 gold shops in Makkah alone closed down due to the decrease in gold sales and the increase in gold prices, said Ziyad Farsai, deputy chairman of the chamber and chairman of its Gold and Jewelry Committee. Sales during the Umrah and Haj seasons failed to make up for the losses, he noted.

Petrochemicals manufacturers in Saudi Arabia have set up a 15-member organisation to liaise with the government in representing Saudi anti-dumping cases abroad, Saudi Gazette has reported. Membership of the 'The Saudi Committee of Petrochemical Manufacturers,' which is to be headed by Mohamed Al-Mady, CEO of Saudi Basic Industries Corp (Sabic), is limited to the major upstream petrochemical manufacturers such as SABIC and Tasnee. The kingdom has had anti-dumping duties placed on some of its products, such as propylene and methanol, by countries such as China, India and Turkey. While India and China subsequently withdrew the anti-dumping proposals, Turkey is still studying a proposal to impose an anti-dumping duty on Saudi methanol imports.

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has announced that all women with faulty breast implants from the now-defunct French firm, Poly Implant Prothese (PIP), are to be able to have them removed and replaced for free, Saudi Gazette has reported. The regulator said the move is the result of an agreement signed with the local medical supply firm that had imported the silicone implants and plastic surgeons who had conducted the initial operations. The agreement covers all the implants which entered the country from 2006 to 2009 through express mail companies, said the SFDA.

      <![CDATA[
The World Bank has said Jordan's economy may grow between 3% and 4% in 2012, Bloomberg has reported. "I am not expecting up to the 5% growth, but something between 3% and 4%," said Sri Mulyani Indrawati, one of three managing directors at the World Bank. The World Bank approved last month a $250m loan to Jordan to aid the nation in overcoming economic difficulties. The kingdom, one of the smallest economies in the Middle East, relies on foreign investment and grants to support its budget and current-account deficits. The government has increased public salaries and subsidies since pro-reform protests broke out as part of last year's regional turmoil.
