        IDC has said the software market of Middle East and other emerging markets have reported a growth of 7.2% year-on-year in 2012. This was the fourth consecutive year of solid growth in these emerging markets, enabling them to collectively gain more than two points of worldwide market share over this period. The global software market grew 3.6% year-on-year last year, less than half the growth rate experienced in 2010 and 2011, said IDC.

        Dell has decided to not set up its public cloud and will instead rely on partners such as Joyent to provide infrastructure services, TechCrunch has reported. The PC maker said its current public cloud service would be discontinued in favour of offerings from other partners, and that it will work with open cloud infrastructure partners, OpenStack, to help customers develop the right solution.

        Intel has rolled out a set of development tools aimed at making it easier for developers to build apps for Android smartphones and other devices based on Intel or ARM designs, Zdnet has reported. The new toolset, codenamed Beacon Mountain, is designed to help extend the number of apps that can run on Android smartphones that use Intel's chips inside. It will only work initially on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 or Windows 8-based computers, but Intel aims to have them up and running on OS X machines by the end of June 2013.

        Dell Inc. has announced it will start shipping its thumb-sized PC, which is the size of a USB stick, in July, PC World has reported. The Android-based device, called Project Ophelia, can turn any screen or display into a PC, gaming machine or a TV set-top box, said Jeff McNaught, executive director of cloud client computing at Dell. Ophelia will plug into a display's HDMI port so that it can run applications or access files stored remotely. It will have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities and is aimed at users who do most of their computing on the web.

        The Saudi interior ministry has said that several government websites have come under attack in a campaign hackers are calling #OpSaudi, the Associated Press has reported. Most of the sites are facing distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, in which hackers flood each site with traffic until they collapse under the load. Among the targeted websites are the Saudi finance ministry, General Intelligence Presidency, the ministry of foreign affairs, and the directorate general of passports, as well as sites for several major Saudi provinces, including Makkah and Jeddah.
