        Qatar Airways has taken delivery of its second Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, following the arrival of its first on November 29, reported The Peninsula. The two planes are presently being utilised on local Gulf based flights but they will be switched to the carrier's 14 hour non-stop Washington route next month. The third of 32 Boeing 777s on order will be delivered next summer.

        Kuwait's Civil Aviation Authority has warned against relocating Kuwait International Airport and recommends expansion at the present site, reported the Kuwait Times. The Municipal Council has proposed moving the facility in ten years time but the aviation authority stated that, presently, only 12% of the airport's capacity is being utilised and traffic operations and flights are now up to 'required standards'.

Talks have been ongoing for 18 months but fell off the rails earlier this month after the Sri Lankan government revoked the work permit of Peter Hill, employed by Emirates as SriLankan's CEO.

Load factors also increased by 7%, rising from 66% to 71%. President/CEO Samer Majali said the carrier also saw its number of departures increase 18% from 23,214 to 27,332; fleet utilisation rose by 11%.

        Qatar Airways has announced it is to cease its four times a week service to Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, from January 9 for 'commercial' reasons, reported Reuters. But travel agents in the military-ruled country claim the flights are usually very full and feel the decision is due to political pressure from western nations after Myanmar clamped down on pro-democracy protests. Qatar Airways launched its Doha-Yangon route in December 2004.
