RTA to crack down on illegal transport vehicles

  • United Arab Emirates: Saturday, February 23 - 2013 at 02:20

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said it would start impounding vehicles involved in illegal transport services in the emirate, while repeat offenders are likely to be arrested followed by deportation, Gulf News has reported. In 2011, the number of offenders caught in the illegal practice has increased to 2,447 from 2,050 in 2010, while registering a drastic increase last year with 3,479 offences. "It is a cause of concern and we are working on ways to tackle the menace. Illegal transport services pose grave danger to the safety of people and it is unacceptable and a blatant breach of transport rules," said the acting CEO of RTA's Public Transport Agency, Ahmad Al Hammadi.
