RTA to reintroduce Salik toll for taxis
- United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, December 04 - 2012 at 05:50
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has said that starting from January 1, taxi users in Dubai will no longer be exempt from the Dhs4 toll when crossing Salik gates, Gulf News has reported. The Salik toll system, which was introduced by the RTA in July 2007, was also applicable to taxis, but the toll was scrapped for taxis from December 2008 following numerous complaints by commuters who felt cheated. "Previously most complaints were from tourists, because cab drivers had to manually add the Dhs4 toll on the fare and this made tourists think they were being cheated. This time, the meters will automatically add the toll," an official at the RTA said.
