Sabre Travel Network Middle East, a subsidiary of Sabre Holdings, a global travel technology company serving the travel and tourism industry, kicked off its annual Give Together fundraising campaign.
Launched in 2000 and held in all Sabre offices around the world, the annual week-long community event sees offices host fundraising activities to raise funds for charitable organizations in the communities where Sabre employees live and work. All funds raised are donated to local charities selected by Sabre employees.
In Bahrain, Sabre conducted a Blow the Balloon Championship, an Xbox Soccer Tournament, a Bake & Sale event, Henna and Fortune Teller sessions and a Raffle Draw to raise funds for Bahrain Cancer Society.
Daniel Naoumovitch, Sabre's chief executive in the region, handed over the Bhd5,000 cheque to Ahmed Al Nowakhda, Secretary General and Dr. Fadi Al Tawash, Executive Member of Bahrain Cancer Society.
"It is part of our culture to give back. Our senior leadership, management teams and our employee base are all passionate about participating in Give Together, and our volunteer program, Give Time Together which took place earlier this year," said Sam Gilliland, Chairman and CEO of Sabre Holdings.
Last year, employee donations combined with Sabre's match exceeded $1, with every dollar going to global charities. This year, the company hopes to exceed its efforts from last year, raising more than $1.2m.
Employees in the US and various other countries like Bahrain, also have the option of making a personal contribution to the charity of their choice through payroll deduction or credit card. Historically, Sabre puts forth a company "match" to each of the donations made.
Since 2000 Give Together has raised over $18m dollars and our employees have logged over 240,000 hours for charities around the globe.
Many charities rely on the funds raised from Give Together to support their ongoing programs and pay for the day to day costs associated with running a non-profit.
Earlier this year, Sabre's Give Time Together global volunteer program saw employees contribute 36,000 hours for more than 200 organizations.
