SAE Institute Dubai recently announced its new degree programme in game development starting this November. At the annual industry GAMES event, the creative media institute showcased what their internationally recognised course was all about, attracting scores of potential students and their parents.
"There were also a number of parents who wanted to understand how this could translate into a future career for their children, which was extremely encouraging," he added.
The course, which is already a staple in many of the institute's international campuses, was introduced in the region for 2012 in line with the growing regional demand and interest in the ever evolving creative media landscape.
As the only education institute present at the GAMES 12 consumer event, SAE received a lot of positive feedback and interest from the public, with tremendous interest in the details of courses, study options and the general state of the industry.
"The response over the weekend event showed us that the industry is ready for our BSc with Honours in Games Programming degree, and we're looking forward to seeing students from our region associated with more handheld and AAA games over the next few years," added Gehrig.
In line with their ongoing degree programmes, the Game Development course will offer a comprehensive mix of theoretical and hands-on knowledge, giving graduates all the tools necessary to start their journey of creation.
Along with the basic mechanics of object oriented programming, 3D modelling, mathematics for programming. game level, system and communication design, the degree programme will also offer more conceptualisation relevant modules such as narrative and character development and script and story boarding to ensure a well rounded understanding of what goes into a compelling game.
