Samsung dominates Egyptian smartphone market in 2012

Samsung Co. Ltd., the global leader in digital convergence, held a press conference today to reveal its remarkable achievements during 2012 in the handheld products (HHP) market in Egypt.

During the conference, Samsung announced that its smartphone market share reached more than 50%, with an increase of more than 30% compared to 2011. During the press conference, Samsung also announced that it will soon reveal the second winner of the Mini Cooper promotion offered as an award for loyal consumers.

"Over the years, Samsung was able to successfully maintain its position as one of the key players in the HHP market locally. Moreover, dominating the largest market share in the smartphone market confirms our consistent growth in Egypt," said Duke Park, Vice President - Samsung Egypt. "As a digital convergence leader we're committed to regularly offer innovative and technologically-advanced products to Egyptian consumers, further showcasing the strength of the Samsung brand. In 2013 we plan to continue to grow our market and provide even greater product diversity, with more smart features than ever before; to best cater to our consumers needs."

Samsung is constantly keen to offer Egyptians unique products matching their evolving needs. In this regard, Samsung's 2013 strategy involves focusing on increasing the HHP range of products to offer low/medium priced android enabled smartphones in addition to increasing its range of high-end products. In 2013, Samsung will launch its new touch wide screen range - REX Series, as well as its upgraded instant messaging flagship application: ChatON 2.0.

In terms of mobile phones market, Samsung's monetary value market share reached more than 40%. As for the smartphone monetary value market share, Samsung is considered No. 1 in the Egyptian market, with more than 60%. Samsung was able to increase its smartphone monetary value market share by more than 40% during 2012 only.

During the press conference, Samsung announced that it will soon reveal the second winner of the Mini Cooper promotion which was held from December 2012 until 3 February 2013. Samsung offered 80 of its loyal customers a chance to win Samsung's latest innovative products and only two winning Mini Cooper Coupe cars. The Samsung products that were given as prizes included the latest range of Samsung Galaxy Mobiles, Samsung Laptops and Ultra Notebooks, Samsung Cameras and Samsung LED screens. Those who bought Samsung smartphones were entered in a draw held under the supervision of the Ministry of Insurance and Social Affairs and 80 of them were selected as winners.
