Saudi Arabia awards SR519m in contracts for water, sewage projects

The Saudi water and electricity ministry has signed 29 contracts worth SR519m ($138m) to implement water and sewage projects in various regions of the country, Saudi Gazette has reported. The contracts are part of plans to develop the public utilities and improve the basic services to meet the increasing requirements of the growing population in the kingdom. Saudi Arabia spent $1.1bn last year on 128 water and sanitation contracts just in the capital Riyadh. In January, the ministry allocated $6.4bn for water and sanitation projects in 2013. It has listed on its official website 160 water projects around the kingdom this year.
