  • Saudi Arabia: Sunday, February 24 - 2013 at 04:37

Saudi Arabia's culture and information ministry has said 1,400 unlicensed news websites are set to be blocked, while around 600 news websites have already been licensed by the ministry, Arab News has reported. The kingdom is seeking to promote freedom of press so that all media houses can play an effective role locally and on the world stage, said the ministry's assistant undersecretary for internal media, Dr Abdulaziz Al-Aqeel. "The ministry supports all media outlets and even facilitates the flow of information," he said. "Our aim is to spread the vision of the kingdom that is based on Islamic and global principles."
