Saudi Arabia to change landline phone area codes

Saudi Arabia's Communication and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has announced a plan to change the current 9-digit landline telephone number to 10-digit system by adding the digit 1 to the six geographical zone codes in May and August, Arab News has reported. The Riyadh area code will change from 01 into 011 on May 13, said the CITC. For the other five areas, the code change will be on August 18. The new codes for the regions will be: Makkah 012, Madinah 014, Eastern Region 013, Qassim 016 and the Southern Region 017.
