The Saudi education ministry has launched a self-service programme for food and beverages at public school canteens, Arab News has reported. Vending machines will be placed at traditional service canteens in 12 schools for boys and girls in Riyadh with the aim of gradually laying off manpower and eliminating the problems associated with it, according to the ministry. "These vending machines are very sophisticated and modern," said Hesa Al-Issa, director of student services at the ministry. "It can serve 80 students at one time, with 60 different types of food and beverage placed in suitable storage temperatures," she said.
