New Saudi authority to monitor audiovisual media

The Saudi culture and information minister Abdul Aziz Khoja has said the newly formed General Authority for Audio and Visual Media is to be responsible for regulating and developing the media sector in accordance with the kingdom's media policies, Arab News has reported. The authority will be an independent body in terms of finance and administration and would have an independent annual budget. The new body will monitor activities of service providers and make sure they follow the necessary regulations and conditions, Khoja said.
