Shaikh Mohammed visits DM pavilion at Gitex

Dubai Municipality Assistant Director General, Eng. Mohammed Abdul Kareem Jalfar and other high officials received His Excellency and briefed about the new projects and initiatives.

While briefing Eng. Jalfar said "The new system is a catalyst of operational forecasting, applied scientific research, a planning and decision support tool and a safety net that generates significant social and economic benefits to a large segment of the population."

"System provides a three day forecast for winds, waves, currents and water level for the entire Arabian gulf from Kuwait to Sultanate of Oman. Public have free access to the system through website of Coastal Zone& Waterways Management Section at Municipality," he added.

Alyaa Harmoodi, Head of Coastal Zone& Waterways Management Section said system use state -of- the-art calibrated and validated numerical models which integrate a sophisticated network of data acquisition monitoring stations distributed along Dubai coast.

She said these stations are equipped with meteorological& oceanographic instrumentation, HF RADAR stations and monitoring cameras.

The DM system is learnt to be capable of assessing the fate of any oil spill taking place in the sea. And also it is capable of predicting inundation of land adjacent to Dubai coast and creek due to the occurrence of abnormally high water levels.

Swimmers, recreational users fishing and commercial craft operators and beach goers will find the predictions by the system highly beneficial.

Recently, DM has started a program to send updated information via SMS to registered users.
