The Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) will continue its popular Family Amusement Day events during January with various workshops taking place at the Sharjah Art, Al Mahatta and Car Museums, as well as Sharjah Aquarium.

SMD's Department of Interpretation and Education is preparing to debut a new programme, tailored for children aged 0-6 years, called "Finger Prints". The Programme will take place at Sharjah Art Museum under the supervision of educational specialists from Sharjah Museum of Islamic Civilization .

Children will have the opportunity to view a painting from the permanent Orientalists exhibition, and will then learn about the painting in more detail.

They will also have the chance to paint their favourite animals, using their fingers and their preferred colours, while enjoying various other activities, including a puppet show.

On this occasion, Alya Burhaima, The Manager of Interpretation and Education Department at SMD, said, "SMD is keen to provide visitors with an enlightening experience and seeks to constantly present itself in an interesting way, especially to children. This workshop, catering specifically to children aged between 0-6 years, is aimed at emphasizing SMD's commitment to and care for children, As always, we will do our very best to achieve our awareness objectives in an entertaining and inclusive manner."

Another workshop, aimed at children and their families and titled "Discover Aircraft & Automobiles", will be held at Al Mahatta and Car museums on 19 January. Parents and children will be able to tour Al Mahatta Museum to get acquainted with the different parts of airplanes before moving to the Sharjah Classic Car Museum, where they will learn about car parts and discover how transport has developed over time.

The Community and Accessibility Programme and Services division Section will also host a workshop for the families of people with different disabilities. The event will take place on 26 January at Sharjah Aquarium, where families can discover the underwater world and various marine species that live in the deep waters. The children and their families will also enjoy other activities to help enhance awareness and encourage engagement in the community.

This series of workshops follows on an earlier SMD event called "Art through The Ages", which took place on 5 January at Sharjah Archaeology Museum. The event, part of the Family Amusement Day programme, saw families get the opportunity to learn about the museum's collections and statues. Topics included time of creation of certain statues and what materials they were made of. Children were also introduced to the way in which statues were made, and how long it took the artists or sculptors to complete them.

Other artistic activities covered during the workshop included painting on shells, and writing a short story about a statue that is on display at the museum.
