Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding Celebrates 15 years announcing new activities for 2013

The Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding (SMCCU), an authentic Emirati institution whose goal is to promote understanding, respect and cooperation between cultures in the UAE, celebrates its 15th anniversary this year by expanding itslandmark cultural programmes and activities.

By the end of January 2013 the centre will increase its weekly activities by hosting a new Cultural Dinner Event every Tuesday at 7pm, and a Cultural Brunch at 10:30 am every Saturday.

In addition to these new activities, the centre will expand itsJumeirah Mosque Visits Programme from four to six days a week hosting visitors for a 75minute programme which will run Saturday through Thursday daily at 10 am.

In 2012, the centre began to host a monthly documentary showing and will continue this new initiative with the next showing taking place on January 25th, 2013, at the Dubai Chamber of Commerce Building.

"We are very pleased with the continued success of the cultural programmes that began more than 15 years ago with our Founder Abdullah bin Eisa Al Serkal," said, Nasif Kayed, General Manager at SMCCU.

"We look forward to the coming years ahead and furthering the centre's mission of promoting peace and cultural understanding within the community under the philosophy 'Open Door.Open minds.' Our continued mission for 2013 is to offer more options to our guests by expanding our programmes while maintaining the authenticity of our visitor's traditional Emirati experience. The centre is a way for tourists and residents to come and experience traditional Emirati culture and also for Emirates to share their culture and traditions in an environment which encouragesopen dialogue," he added.

The cultural centre offers a range of activities besides cultural meals and mosque tours. These include Bastakiya tours of the creek and heritage area, Arabic language classes and special cultural awareness presentations aimed at private businesses and institutions as well as Business Councils, Embassies, Consulates and social groups.

The centre also offers a full range of educational services tailored to meet the needs of local and international schools and institutes of higher learning.
