- PRESS RELEASE
Shell in Saudi Arabia announced that HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal will be an ambassador for Road Safety in Shell's 2013 road safety programme.
According to the Saudi General Department of Traffic the latest statistics show, 7,153 people died on Saudi Arabia's roads last year. 75% of these are vulnerable road users such as children.
The programme will run through 2013 and will target education institutes and public places, focusing on youth. Shell believes that the association with a respected Saudi national with vast motoring experience will give the programme additional weight and credibility.
HRH Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal is a professional racing driver, last year's winner of the ME Porsche cup who also shares Shell passion for road safety.
Prince Abdulaziz commented on the occasion of signing the agreement by saying, "Road safety is a major challenge in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Our mission is to make road safe and increase the education and awareness about road safety to the youth and drivers alike. Shell is a global leader in developing road safety. We are very happy to work together with Shell in developing this approach in Saudi Arabia."
Patrick van Daele also commented by saying, "We take road safety very seriously in Shell - not only inside the Company but also by working hand-in-hand with the communities where we operate. Our road safety programmes around the world show that we can save lives, and that targeting youth is a good way of creating more awareness. With this programme, we hope to contribute to addressing society's most pressing challenges. We are very happy to tackle the road safety challenges in partnership with HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Faisal. His great achievements as a professional racing driver make him an ideal choice to deliver an impactful message."
