- PRESS RELEASE
Siemens, the global powerhouse in electronics and electrical engineering operating in the energy, infrastructure, industry and healthcare sectors, will showcase a series of innovative technologies for power generation, distribution and transmission at Power-Gen Middle East in Qatar from February 4 to 6, emphasizing the importance of energy efficiency in the drive for a more sustainable energy mix.
The world record-holding H-Class gas turbine, which has achieved an unsurpassed efficiency rating of 60.75% in combined-cycle mode, combining gas turbines with steam turbines, is central to the Siemens presence at Power-Gen Middle East, and demonstrates the firm's commitment to advancing the technological capabilities of fossil-fired power generation.
In addition, experts from Siemens will be demonstrating the company's broad portfolio of solutions for the modification and upgrade of existing infrastructure, including Wet Compression, which uses water injected into a gas turbine to increase the power output by up to 15%.
"It's important that the technology we develop today is able to benefit infrastructure that already exists," said Dietmar Siersdorfer, "and Wet Compression is an excellent example of this. Increasingly, we are ensuring that mature fleets are able to take advantage of modern innovation, bringing increased efficiency to the power generation, transmission and distribution infrastructure already installed, globally and here in the Middle East."
Both Wet Compression and the H-Class gas turbine are part of the Siemens Environmental Portfolio, a wide-ranging suite of products and solutions that in 2012 helped Siemens customers worldwide to reduce their annual carbon-dioxide emissions by around 332 million tons.
