Social Roulette triggers Facebook ban

The Facebook app that left users with a one in six chance of deleting their account has been shot down by the social network, TechCrunch has reported. Mimicking the real-life Russian roulette game, which involves a revolver with six chambers and one bullet, Social Roulette presented the risk of 'social suicide'. Losers would find all posts, friend connections and photos deleted, before the app deactivated their account, while winners simply got a message posted to their timeline, indicating they had survived. "It took us four hours to create the project, and it took another four hours after the launch for Facebook to respond by blocking the API key and restricting our ability to create Facebook applications," McDonald told TechCrunch. "The app was flagged by an automated system for 'creating a negative user experience.' After review, they decided they don't like our logo either. We tried to follow the branding guidelines but we must have misunderstood them." Facebook declined to comment on the banned app, other than its goal is to 'protect the user experience'.
