Society of Engineers - UAE wins the CSR Initiative of the Year Award towards sustainable development

The award recognizes the achievements of SOE in providing the sustainable development and awareness in the field of green building and energy conservation, and the use of renewable energy in the competition for the best Practice in the field of energy and sustainable development in 2012 which was organized by the (Informa) on the side of Middle East Electricity and Solar Energy 17 to 19 February 2013.

According to H.E. Eng. Essa Al Maidoor, President of Society of Engineers - UAE and Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, while receiving the award at the ceremony which took place in the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, said for Assembly this award is a great honor for us, and reflects the role played by the Assembly during the last year of the initiatives in the field of sustainable development, global with the United Nations in the initiative "Towards sustainable Energy for All in 2012", and through articles published magazine world of engineering, and through the organization of several conferences, exhibitions and awards engineering and seminars awareness, and training programmes that will develop the skills and capabilities of engineers, especially in there as of sustainability and green building and rationalization of electricity consumption, renewable energy, and shows the leading role of association by organizing those events for Assembly is a meeting place between the government and the private sector and consultancy offices and contracting companies, universities and experts in these areas.

Also he added Future Green Cities (Empty of Carbon), Green Buildings, Green Transportation, Green Houses, Green Style of Life and Green Economic, these are the direction we are seeking in order to save our environment and natural resources. This change is not depending only on regulations, rules, technical specifications but depends on the criteria and process which allows us to change ourselves, way of thinking and awareness in order to have better future.

Saving energy resources and the direction to use alternative energy are from the important direction of our wisdom leaders, so we must have the ability of initiative and creativity as the word "impossible" does not exist in our excellent process. In order to achieve that, we need to attract the needful expertise in the field of Solar Energy, Wind and adapting international specifications in order to achieve best practices.

Saving our Environment and Reducing Energy Usage are the most vital and essential issues that we need to be focused on. The meaning of Sustainability is not only about green buildings but sustainability is all about the different fields in our daily life. Reducing and controlling the usage of water and electricity is important and it starts from the continuous awareness campaigns which have effects to change the nation's lifestyle and also through studies and researches in the field of saving environment resources and managing energy. Saving our natural resources is not the responsibility of the government and the country but it is a responsibility of individuals.

Al Maidoor state that Society of Engineers is playing an essential role in organizing different engineering conferences that helps to develop the abilities and expertise of the engineers and also provides awareness in different topics like Sustainability, Green Buildings, Reducing Electricity Usage and Alternative Energy. From here it shows the outstanding role of Society of Engineers in organizing different conferences and forums that became the networking place between government and private entities, consultants and contractors, universities and experts in different fields.

Finally we are inviting and encouraging all the engineers & architects in different sectors in the country, government and private entities to adapt the strategy of saving our environment and the best use of our natural resources.

This is an invitation for a change, invitation for a positive outlook, and invitation to start with our selves and to be example for others.

The future generations and young engineers are the main structures of our nation's progress. From here the necessity emerge on concentrating in our future generations and young engineers by providing them continuous awareness that starts from preparatory to final graduation from the universities until they join the work field. We have full responsibility in guiding our nation's youth to learn the best practices and demonstrate the best national experience in the engineering sector.
