Sony extends medical line-up with new radiology diagnostic monitors and 3D innovations at Arab Health 2013

Building on its ground breaking Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) driven technology, and the successful launch of its PVM-2551MD medical monitor in 2011, Sony has launched a new medical 3D recorder, new 3D camera and five new diagnostic displays, to offer medical experts the highest quality products that they demand.

LMD-DM Series of diagnostic displays

At Arab Health 2013 Sony will also be introducing its first ever range of high-quality diagnostic displays, the LMD-DM50, LMD-DM30 LMD-DM30C, LMD-DM20C and LMD-DM20. The LMD-DM Series of diagnostic displays, with their high-luminance and high-contrast capabilities, offer clear images to display and view medical images such as MRI, X-ray and digital mammography images.

The LMD-DM50 and LMD-DM30 will feature the Independent Sub-pixel Drive (ISD) technology that is capable of producing three times the resolution of monochrome LCDs. Available in both the 5MP and 3MP grayscale models, ISD creates reliable image quality for viewing high resolution diagnostic studies including CR and DR images, CT, MR and particularly full field digital mammography (FFDM) where detailed viewing of micro-calcifications is possible.

The LMD-DM50 and LMD-DM30 can be used in digital mammography PACS, and modalities including Full Field Digital Mammography (FFDM). The LMD-DM30C, LMD-DM20C and LMD-DM20 can be used in displaying and viewing medical images such as MRI and CT; these displays are not designed for digital mammography.

HVO-3000MT 3D HD Medical Recorder

Sony Professional also announced the launch of the HVO-3000MT 3D HD Medical Recorder, the industry's first medical recorder capable of recording at a resolution of 1080/60p. It fits with the growing number of high-image-quality endoscopes that also support 1080/60p resolution, and because it captures the full resolution of these imaging devices, it delivers excellent realistic views of anatomical areas and surgical procedure.

The HVO-3000MT has multiple interfaces to support a wide variety of camera output formats: HD-SDI, DVI-D, composite video, S video, stereo audio I/O, analogue RGB input, and, for digital images, HD/DK-SDI and DVD I/Os. The unit supports construction of simple and highly reliable systems, as it can connect to many devices with no need for converters.

Recent years have seen a steady increase in 3D surgical imaging devices, including 3D-capable rigid endoscopes and 3D Imaging for operating microscopes. The HVO-3000MT recorder greatly increases the range of access to these images, allowing medical staff and technicians to monitor the status in 3D, so that surgery can progress more smoothly.

MCC-3000MT HD video camera

Sony also announced the launch of the MCC-3000MT HD video camera, designed for capturing realistic 3D images from operating microscopes. The new camera, which uses 1/2-inch full-HD 3Chip-CMOS sensor, connects to the operating microscope and delivers extremely precise imaging in all three dimensions, therefore recording the exact same view that the surgeon sees through the microscope.

Sony has leveraged its experience with broadcast and industrial 3D cameras to design a device that combines ease of adjustment with the high-precision, high-resolution capabilities required for medical settings. While adjustment of 2-unit 3D cameras has typically been a difficult task, this new design allows the user to easily adjust color matching, white balance, and similar parameters, directly from the control unit.

The 3D video can also be displayed on a 3D-capable monitor, allowing everyone in the operating room to view the surgery's progress. The realistic imaging can be used for teaching and training purposes and can be sent out over a network so that remote medical staff can provide high-level support as needed.

The HVO-3000MT and LMD-DM radiology displays will be available shortly after Arab Health and the MCC-3000MT in December 2012.
