Startup Weekend comes to Sana'a

Startup Weekend is a global network of passionate leaders and entrepreneurs on a mission to inspire, educate, and empower individuals, teams and communities. Come share ideas, form teams, build products and launch startups.

Anyone is welcome to sign up and on average half of Startup Weekend's attendees have technical or design backgrounds such as coders and computer engineers and the other half have business backgrounds.

This 54 hour event will see a variety of entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs compete and exchange expertise and their experiences for the development of technical projects.

The Startup Weekend organization is based in the U.S. city of Seattle, Washington and is proud to display its foundations as an organization aimed at providing a platform for developers, business managers, startup enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists to start a whole new entrepreneurial life.

Globally, it aims to provide training and development opportunities for entrepreneurs and for those who are itching to share their amazing ideas and break out into the entrepreneurial field.

The power of entrepreneurship is creating a place you want to work and want to be, and work with the people you enjoy. Startup Weekend allows you to do just that. The activities setup by the organization has a strong emphasis on quick and effective meetings that stimulate refined entrepreneurship.

This has widened the spread of their impact across more than 300 cities in over 100 countries world-wide, and provided an opportunity for more than 57,000 participants to develop their skills and communicate with investors about possible business opportunities.

54 intensive hours, throughout the weekend under the supervision of mentors in different areas is how a startup event will generally run.

The mentors will provide guidance and direction to the participants, with the speakers, experts and entrepreneurs maintaining the role of the rulers of the projects securing inspiring ideas and marketing schemes for building scalable and successful companies.

The participants have an opportunity to solve real-world problems, thus there exists a strong possibility of walking away with a job or even an investor.

The stats say over 36% of Startup Weekend start-ups are still going strong over 3 months, with the participants continuing on to join over 45,000 Startup Weekend alumni, all on a mission to change the world.

Startup Weekend Sanaa is on that pathway of discovery. Its mission is to the change the world of Yemeni communities. Startup Weekend Sanaa is targeting Yemeni individuals interested in technology entrepreneurship and for individuals who are excited about expanding their ideas into their very own companies.

Passionate developers will also be keen to get involved taking advantage of this opportunity to work together to produce technical projects which may significantly contribute to fostering a culture of self-employment. This will have the capacity to provide more job opportunities for Yemeni youth thereby driving the national economy.

Mohammad Hareth, Startup Weekend Sanaa organizer, believes that the effectiveness of start-ups lies in their providing valuable opportunities for investors to actualise ideas that will be displayed during the event by the elite and creative Yemeni individuals.

Mr. Hareth has also pointed to the importance of Startup Weekend Sanaa creating an environment of orientation and openness to the internet and strengthening the position of Yemen in the technology market in the MENA region.

This event will play a momentous role in bridging the gap between the brilliant technical ideas Yemeni's have to offer and venture capitalists willing to invest in the technical field. This is the first of what organisers are hoping will be many Startup Weekends in Yemen - aiming to startup a whole new chapter in Yemen's economic and social schema.
