- PRESS RELEASE
In 2010 STC was the first regional operator adopting 4G LTE network technology, which was later launched by the company, as certified by GSM Association (The official entity responsible for all mobile networks around the world).
In September 12th, 2011, STC's 4G services have been documented and featured on GSM's website.
STC's 4G services are in continuous and inspiring development reflecting the greater world attachment to this modern technology.
STC worked hard to uplift its investment in wireless network infrastructure, further penetration, and to provide the latest world technologies in a bid to expand 4G services at various frequencies and at coverages that rose to some 65% in many parts of the Kingdom and at speeds reached up to 100 Mbps by the end of 2012 with plans to reach a coverage of 95% by the end of 2014.
In addition, STC focused its investments on the developed version of 3G HSPA + network service to provide speeds up to 84 Mbps that reached coverage up to 91% for 3G and 99% for 2G in different Saudi regions and cities.
Smart phones, that are compatible with 4G technology and supporting 1800 MHz or 2300 MHz, are highly effective with the network.
Interconnection with this technology can be secured via a wide variety of smart phones prevailing in local market such as HTC one - SV, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 920 iPhone 5 and the latest versions of Samsung Galaxy S3.
Customers may activate 4G LTE service for free by either sending a free "4466" SMS to "902".
They may also deactivate it by sending a "4469" SMS to "902".
Furthermore, customers may dial 902, or otherwise visit the nearest STC Branch for activation or deactivation of the service.
