Tablet shipments to surge as Apple makes gains - IDC
- Middle East: Saturday, June 16 - 2012 at 12:08
According to market research firm IDC, tablet shipments are expected to surge in 2012 and 2013, with Apple's iPad taking a greater market share at the expense of its Android rival, ZDnet has reported. The iPad is to reclaim back some of the market share it lost to Android last year, while the global tablet market increase to 107.4 million in 2012, up from 69.6% in 2011. The report, however, did not take into account Windows-based tablets, with IDC saying it will consolidate all media tablets, including Windows RT devices, into the media tablet tracker in the following quarter. "We don't expect Windows-based tablets to necessarily take share from Apple and Android, but will grow the overall tablet market," said IDC research director Tom Mainelli.
