New Taji Power Plant adds 160MW to Iraq grid

  • Iraq: Sunday, June 03 - 2012 at 11:07

Iraq's Taji Power Plant is the latest addition to help the Ministry of Electricity (MOE) meet the country's urgent energy needs, adding 160MW of critical capacity. The MOE commissioned facility sits 20km northeast of Baghdad and uses four GE supplied Frame 6B Gas Turbines, which are generating enough electricity to support around 160,000 households. "The successful startup of Taji signals the first steps in fulfilling our continuous commitment to bring much needed, reliable electricity to the people of Iraq," said His Excellency Karim Aftan Aljumaily, Minister of Electricity, Iraq. GE is also supplying similar equipment for two other new power plants in Hilla and Karbala. Those plants are expected to enter service in 2012.
