Thailand Ambassador to Oman visits PAIPED to strengthen bilateral trade and investment ties

Exploring new avenues for trade and investment between Thailand and Oman, H.E. Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of the Public Authority for Investment Promotion and Export Development (PAIPED), hosted the Thai Ambassador to Oman, Dr. Pornchai Danvivathana.

As both nations seek mutually beneficial partnership agreements, the meeting aimed to uncover new areas of growth as well as building upon the existing ties between both countries.

H.E. Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Ismaily, Chairman of PAIPED, said, "The Sultanate already enjoys a strong and longstanding trade relationship with Thailand and we are always looking for new markets for the growing array of Omani products. As we look to reinforce trade relations and diversify our economy we are confident that Oman has a lot more to offer Thai investors in the minerals, agriculture and healthcare sectors."

Thailand has been a long-time partner in the Omani economy, with exports of raw materials and minerals totaling $2.2bn in 2011, contributing 7.7% to the national GDP. Total imports into Oman from Thailand were valued at around $580.1m in the same year, mostly comprising of food products automobile parts and chemicals.

A public-sector organization dedicated to facilitate economic growth, PAIPED works in collaboration with government and the business community to attract investment into Oman as well as boost the export of locally produced goods.
