Touch launches 50% discount package for media members

For the first time in Lebanon, media members can enjoy a 50% discount on their postpaid mobile lines for local talk time and local text messages thanks to the newly-launched 'Syndicates' Offer' by touch, the leading mobile telecommunications company in Lebanon managed by Zain Group.

This special plan offering 800 minutes and an 80 SMS and was officially announced during a press conference that took place at the Phoenicia Hotel on Thursday the 7th of March under the auspices and in the presence of the Telecoms Minister, Nicolas Sehnaoui.

Also present at the conference were the head of the Lebanese Press syndicate, Mr. Mohammad Baalbaki and the head of the Lebanese Editors' syndicate, Mr. Elias Aoun along with a number of representatives from both syndicates.

Mr. Aoun thanked, 'the company's appreciation for the work of the press; this cooperation will be the first of many soon to take place'. On the other hand, Mr. Baalbaki praised this initiative as strengthening the relationship between the state and the press.

Commenting on the dynamic relationship between mobile technology and journalism, the Corporate Communications & Relations Manager at touch, Ghada Barakat, said, "In light of the conjunction between telecommunications and media, a revolution is taking place globally whereby journalists are solely relying on mobile phones to record and send information. It was thus inevitable to introduce a procedure that accounts for the journalist and media's constant use of telecommunications to complete their work in general. Based on the need of the Lebanese media, touch devised a new offer exclusively for the people working in the domains of journalism and media."

Telecommunications Minister, Nicolas Sehnaoui, stated, "We stand here today not in the name of touch and the ministry of telecommunications but rather in the name of the Lebanese people's support to the press and freedom of expression. We are expressing our support today through this special offer that provides a 50% discount on calls made by press and media members through their touch postpaid lines. We are very well aware of the importance of phone calls for journalists in their daily work especially during this phase of technological advancement, as communication is becoming their main working tool overall."

Sehanoui added, "This initiative is expected to be expanded to other press and media entities and we are working on including in this offer all the press corps from the photographer to the editor. I also promise that that there will be more concrete support for the media and the press. Also, following this press conference, another one will take place in the coming week that will cover the syndicates of the press photographers, the audiovisual syndicate, the press club and the information and documentation alumni association, all in the pursuit of reaching the highest number of press and media members."

'Syndicates' Offer' is the latest release from touch and comes on top of a whole new range of customized products giving customers the opportunity to experience great cost efficiency on their mobile phones.
