Tourism to boost Dubai economy

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, November 28 - 2012 at 05:01

Dubai Statistics Centre has said that tourism and trade are set to propel the emirate's economy to its biggest expansion in five years, Bloomberg has reported. The hotel and restaurant industries grew more than 16%, while manufacturing expanded 10.4%. On November 24, the ruler of Dubai announced plans for a development boasting the world's biggest shopping mall and gardens larger than London's Hyde Park. "The current facilities available in Dubai need to be scaled up in line with the future ambitions for the city," Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum said. "We have to start work immediately" on the project.
