Toyota reports strong global sales record of 8.72 million units in 2012 with increase of 23% over 2011

Toyota announced a strong growth in 2012 sales with global sales record (Toyota & Lexus) totaling 8.72 million units. These figures translate into a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 23% when compared to corresponding results from the year 2011.

In the same year, Toyota also crossed a major milestone of 1 million hybrid vehicles produced, an achievement made in line with this impressive sales growth. The Middle East region also reported a record year with unit sales reaching 660,285 units. The YoY increase in this area reached 31% in comparison to 2011.

Across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region alone, Toyota sold 624,400 vehicles, thus resulting in 31% increase YoY over 2011. The brand also maintained its position at the top of the GCC automotive industry with a further increase in its dominant market share, thus reporting it to reach a total of 43%, and in turn resulting in a 4% increase in market share from 2011.

Commenting on these achievements, Marketing Manager at Central Trade and Auto Company (CTA) - the exclusive dealer for Toyota in the Kingdom- Mr. Nadim Haddad said "We at CTA are proud of these achievements. These positive outcomes reflect the heartfelt positive response from Toyota's customer base around the globe, and in particularly the Middle East, in which we are pleased to contribute to this success by offering the ultimate automotive experience to all visitors of our showroom."

In 2012, Toyota introduced a range of new and re-designed models in the Middle East. These included the Toyota 86, which is an epoch making sports model which has received worldwide adoration from customers, media and the motoring industry at large.

In 2012, Toyota also introduced the new, redesigned 2012 Aurion to the Middle East market. Across the Lexus brand, Toyota introduced Middle East customers to a dynamic, fresh styling, that reflected the new face of Lexus through its bold new design and superior craftsmanship . It introduced its flagship LX570, RX 350 and RX 450h in the SUV segment alongside the all-new ES lineup which includes the ES 350 and ES 250.

It is also worth noting that Toyota group (Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu & Hino) reported strong global sales of 9.75 million units in 2012 resulting in a 23% increase over 2011.
