Oman's Telecoms Regulatory Authority (TRA) has prepared a set of draft regulations aimed at strengthening measures to monitor online content in the country, Muscat Daily has reported. Under the proposed rules, the authority will have the right to 'prohibit a website' if its content violates provisions laid down in five broad categories: Acts (laws); content contrary to public order and public morals; 'threatening content'; bad language; content for children and for persons with special needs. The regulations will also cover "content that may pose a risk to the security, health or safety of people, and which includes instructions on explosive-making, computer hacking/cracking, counterfeit products, etc.; and which disseminates false information with regard to outbreak of racial disturbances, possible terrorist attacks or a contagious disease.
