Apart from these two factors, urbanization enlarges Turkish demand of power, MENA countries have to gain more power to desalinate more water for the increased population. Some countries in this region like Morocco, Saudi Arabia will also have to make a diversified energy mix.
Renewable energy became the overwhelming choice for this region. Thanks to the peculiar geography, Turkey and MENA countries are of huge potential of solar energy; whilst Turkey, Morocco and other Mediterranean are rich in wind energy.
Governments in Turkey and MENA region have taken steps to promote the development of renewable energy. Turkey has modified its regulations to provide more attractive incentives. Very recently, Saudi Arabia set to boost its solar power by announcing a 108 billion investment plan. UAE's Mazda city is still under construction; Morocco has been attracting investment for both wind and solar project. To sum up, an emerging market is arising.
