  • PRESS RELEASE

Under the patronage of H. H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, the UAE Cancer Congress will be hosted from 11th - 13th October at InterContinental Festival City.

The congress took off in 2009 with the hope of promoting a multidisciplinary approach to the management of individuals with cancer and has grown into an event the region can be truly proud of.

This year's program boasts top regional and international faculty who have come together to deliver a program filled with didactic lectures, tumour debates, challenging case presentations and oral presentations of the best research submitted from the region.

Additionally, there will be surgical oncology workshops and video presentations. Oncology nurses also have a two day session tailored specifically to meet their needs in the region.

Dr. Shaheenah Dawood, the Head of Medical Oncology at Dubai Hospital and the Congress President, said, "The goals of the UAE Cancer Congress have stayed the same since its conception principally to bring the best academic congress to the region as well as support research. Last year we had the first research grant awarded. We continue this year with the same goals and will continue to support education, research and training and to that end numerous best abstract awards and travel grants will be made available. Abstracts and grants submitted will also undergo a careful review process from our fantastic scientific committee."

Organised in conjunction with MCI Middle East, the congress will bring together faculty from renowned global institutions such as MD Anderson Cancer Centre, USA, Mayo Clinic Cancer Centre, USA, Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Centre, USA, Leuven Cancer Institute, Belgium, Centre Hépato-Biliaire and Paul Brousse Hospital, France, Tata Memorial Hospital, India and Cairo University, Egypt among others.

Head & neck oncology, updates and controversies in gyne oncology, advances in imaging and cancer, updates in GI oncology & lung cancer and bone health and cancer are some of the topics that will be covered at the congress.

"Overall this year will, I am sure, prove to be an engaging experience for all attendees and will afford plenty of networking opportunities. With a fantastic program and prominent faculty this year's congress will be one not to miss," added Dr Dawood.
