Dr. Rasha Obaid Al Zaabi has become the first UAE national obstetrician to graduate from Corniche Hospital's Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) training in Maternal /Obstetric medicine. The graduation ceremony to honour Dr. Al Zaabi and fellow graduate Meera Aravallil, a native of India, was held on October 13, 2012, at Abu Dhabi's Sheraton Hotel.
"This is a special achievement for Corniche Hospital and we are extremely proud of our graduates," said Dr. Mariam Al Mazrouei, Deputy CEO, Corniche Hospital. "Dr. Rasha's graduation demonstrates the advancement of UAE national doctors in specialized disciplines, as well as highlighting Corniche Hospital's commitment to offering continuing medical education for local health care providers. Over the last few years, our hospital has come a long way as we developed from being a health care provider to becoming a certified teaching hospital. We are delighted to shape the next generation of health care professionals in our country and beyond."
Recognition by RCOG allows Corniche Hospital to offer the Advanced Training Skills Module (ATSM) in Maternal Medicine and Fetal Medicine to UAE physicians as part of its Continuing Medical Education programme. These rigorous training modules have been designed to equip the doctors with the advanced subspecialty skills that are required for independent practice.
"The ATSM Maternal Medicine programme is unique for the UAE as it offers extremely focused educational opportunities not found anywhere else. It is exemplary to have the first UAE national graduate from the programme's second year at Corniche Hospital and we are looking forward to training more UAE nationals in the future," said Dr. Bashir Salih, Corniche Hospital's Chief of Obstetric Medicine, who heads the programme along with Dr. Nageena Mahmoud, Consultant at the hospital's department of Obstetric Medicine.
Corniche Hospital is managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and is owned and operated by Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (Seha), which is responsible for the curative activities of all the public hospitals and clinics of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
