UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid organizes blood donation campaign

As part of its commitment to fulfill its responsibilities towards the UAE community, the UAE Office for the Coordination of Foreign Aid (OCFA) organized a blood donation campaign, in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Blood Bank (ADBB).

OCFA's employees participated in large numbers in the campaign, aware of its cultural and humanitarian goals.

"The blood donation campaign is one of our CSR initiatives meant to enhance the office's involvement with UAE society. Through this initiative, OCFA seeks to promote cooperation with local and federal authorities providing medical services for UAE citizens and residents. OCFA stresses the importance of the blood donation culture among its employees," said HE Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Executive Director of OCFA.

Every year Abu Dhabi Blood Bank supplies more than 25000 units of blood (a total of over 40000 blood products) to help save the lives of of accidents' victims, fire victims anemia patients (Thalassemia and Sickle Cell disease), women with complications of pregnancy, such as ectopic pregnancies and hemorrhage before or during childbirth, patients with bleeding disorders (Hemophilia), patients undergoing surgeries, and cancer Patients. Each unit of donated blood saves the lives of three people.

OCFA was established by Cabinet Decree to support UAE foreign aid donors improve their delivery of humanitarian and development programmes worldwide.

With HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, presiding as the office's President, OCFA is assessing foreign aid donor needs; providing appropriate training programmes and knowledge transfers; and, building and strengthening ties between the UAE foreign aid sector and the international aid community by providing multiple platforms that bring international and local aid organizations together.
