- PRESS RELEASE
UAE Rugby announced a new International Sevens Rugby Tournament. Hosted by the UAE Rugby Federation the tournament will be played over the weekend of March 15th and 16th 2013 at Dubai Sports City.
"It remains paramount that UAE Rugby continues to take steps to raise the standard of Rugby in the region by providing opportunities for developing Unions to play competitively. This Tournament takes place as a direct result of our ongoing dialogue with IRB and we will continue to be a strong driving force regionally through the delivery of this Tournament and other programmes," said UAERF Chairman Mohammed Falaknaz.
The UAE Rugby Federation (UAERF) is the governing body responsible for the development and growth of the game in the UAE. In February 2009 the board of the UAE Rugby Association (UAERA) was formed with the support of the UAE Minister of Culture and Youth and Community Development and the Chairman of the Government of Youth and Sports. On January 1st 2011 the UAERA became operational and was awarded with full membership of the Asian Rugby Football Union in June 2011. In October 2012 the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare upgraded the Union to Federation status and in late November was awarded with Full Membership of the IRB.
