  • PRESS RELEASE

The 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject, published today on TopUniversities.com, reveals the top 200 universities in the world for 30 disciplines including degree subjects such as mathematics, economics, civil engineering, physics, law and 25 others.

The American University of Sharjah was the only institution in the UAE to be featured in the ranking series, placing 151-200 in the world for English Language and Literature. Saudi Arabia was the best-performing country in the Gulf region with four universities featured.

Ben Sowter, head of research at QS says, "Although it may appear that only one UAE institution appeared in the ranking series, we should also note that only the top 200 in the world were published, illustrating the world's most elite institutions in the 30 different discipline fields."

He continues, "Our data has shown that beyond the top 200, nine UAE institutions in total had received nominations by academics in at least one subject, which shows that the international reputation of the country's institutions at an individual discipline level is not going unnoticed."

The 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject evaluated 2,858 universities and ranked 678 institutions in total.

The full methodology with an overview of the performance of UAE institutions is published on TopUniversities.com alongside the 2013 QS World University Rankings by Subject tables for accounting and finance; chemistry; history; English language; sociology; electrical engineering; chemical engineering; politics, biological sciences; modern languages; and more.
