UAEU students develop multiculturalism and leadership skills in Scotland

Six students from the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) have been selected to participate in a one month long intensive training program at the Al Maktoum College of Higher Education in Scotland.
The students will be offered an experience in the field of Islamic Studies which is an expansive area however it will be offered with a unique frame and new agenda composed and developed by Al Maktoum College of Higher Education.
H.E Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the office of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, said, "This program commenced in 2008 and since its establishment, 589 female students from UAE and Qatar have benefited from this program. The main goal of this academic training program is to motivate the participants, develop their knowledge and skills, ways of critical thinking and prepare them with the required knowledge and abilities for active leadership 'socially and academically'."
H.E. Prof. Mohamed Yousif Baniyas, Provost and Chief Academic Officer, UAEU, participated in a meeting organized by British University in Dubai to discuss the outcomes of this program and expressed the University's pride in participating in a program under the patronage of H.H Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and reassured the support and keenness of UAEU's participation in such events.
He said, "It supports the objects of the University management to ensure our students graduate with the essential skills and expertise whilst participating in cultural interaction and learning respect for other cultures."
He also pointed out that the students who previously participated in the program came back with enormously rich experiences that benefited them in both their personal and academic lives.
He praised the role of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum in portraying the values important to UAE society; values that include the welfare of all humanity, defense of the oppressed and spreading of peace throughout the world. A society of caring people without distinction of race, nationality or religion.
H.E. Abdullah Alshamsi, Vice Chancellor of the British University in Dubai, stated, "Due to the strategic geographical location of Arab countries, they are considered as the land of different civilizations and cultures. Therefore, we should improve the leadership skills in multiculturalism in order to live in peace with other cultures. I'm confident that our students and their parents share with us the same vision. This training program is a strong commitment from the Government of Dubai to create a friendly and safe environment in UAE and Gulf in general."
A total of 48 Emirati female students were selected for this years program from different universities in UAE representing UAEU, Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology in Dubai, American University in Sharjah, College of Arabic and Islamic Studies in Dubai and British University in Dubai. The graduation ceremony will be held on the 4TH of March at Dundee in Scotland.
UAEU has been participating in this training program since its inception. A total of 114 students from the UAEU have benefited from this program to date.
