United Real Estate Company receives Judges Special Recognition at MIPIM Architectural Review Awards

United Real Estate Company (URC), the Middle East's leading real estate development company, announced that its Junoot project in Shuwaimiyah, has received the prestigious 'Special Judges Recognition' award during the 11th Annual MIPIM Architectural Review Future Projects Awards.

The award was presented during a gala ceremony and dinner held at JW Marriott Cannes, France on Wednesday, 13 March 2013.

On this occasion, Renimah Ali Al Mattar, URC's Executive Vice President commented, "We are very proud to win such a prestigious award and to have this special project recognized by the world renowned MIPIM Architectural Future Project Awards judged by a panel of industry experts. Our Junoot development in Shuwaimiya, Oman has received global recognition for its unique development approach introducing new construction methodologies that are sustainable while integrating renewable energy sources to create a unique destination in Oman."

This year, URC was the only Kuwaiti-based real estate development company to take part in the world's largest trade show and awards competition. The company also had a booth at the property show to exhibit its projects allowing global companies, industry experts and investors to gain a better insight of the company's operations and developments in the Middle East.

The MIPIM 2013 Architectural Review Future Projects Awards was developed for un-built or projects in the early design phase spanning across twelve categories under the original MIPIM programme.

The awards have been running since 2002 and take place at MIPIM, the annual international property market, which regularly attracts over 20,000 delegates to Cannes. The award judges architecture as well as the project's contribution to the surrounding environment.

Junoot Eco development is a unique project in Shuwaimiyah, a fishing village situated on a 30 kilometer beach on the shores of the Indian Ocean. URC's vision for the project stems from its strategy which focuses on sustainable developments. The site is approximately one million square meters of land between the Shuwaimiyah Mountains and the Indian Ocean. The development uses The California Institute of Earth Art and Architecture (Cal-Earth) methodology with SSH International as the lead Design Consultant. The project uses local earth as building material, simple earth architecture techniques, and introduces solar panel technology to create eco-friendly structures that are non-disruptive to the surrounding environment. In developing the project, URC demonstrated its leadership and willingness to embrace new concepts and new ways to use traditional and sustainable building materials. In 2012, the project won the coveted 'Future Projects - Leisure Led Development' award, presented by the 2012 World Architecture Festival.
