Vale aims to raise Sohar plant's capacity to 12mtpa in the short-run

  • Oman: Wednesday, October 03 - 2012 at 02:16

Brazilian mining giant Vale has proposed raising its capacity of its pelletising complex in Sohar, Oman, to 12 million tonnes per annum in the short-run, which is against an earlier plan to double its capacity to 18mtpa, Times of Oman has reported. "We are preparing to increase the capacity of this plant as soon as the market in the region grows. We can easily raise capacity from 9mtpa to 12mtpa, which could be done in a very short period of time and with a marginal investment," Vale said. The expansion will be carried out when the government assures additional gas and the market condition turns favourable to justify it, said Jose Carlos Martins, Vale's executive director for ferrous and strategy.
