HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy (DSCE), who has led a delegation to participate in the Rio+20 Earth Summit as part of the UAE's official delegation presided by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has visited the UAE's stand and those from other participating countries including Qatar, Italy, France, the USA, the UN Environment Programme, and many others.

Accompanied by Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Aide to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, UAE Special Envoy for Energy and Climate Change and CEO and MD of Masdar, Al Tayer toured the UAE's stand and commended its set-up, demonstrations and efficient organization.

He also met Adnan Amin, Director General of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), which is headquartered in Abu Dhabi, and they discussed ways of fostering collaboration between the two sides.

During the tour, Al Tayer was accompanied by Nejib Zaafrani, Secretary General and CEO of the DSCE, Waleed Salman, Chairman of the Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellence (DCCE), Omar Al Qurashi, Manager for Corporate Communications at the DSCE, Taher Diab, Manager for Strategy and Planning at the DSCE, Khawla Al Mehairi, VP—Marketing and Corporate Communications at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Ahmed Abdullah, Deputy Senior Manager for External Communications, and Fatma Al Shamsi, Deputy Manager for Media Relations and Engagement at DEWA.

Al Tayer stressed the importance of this visit as it provides a good opportunity to look at different activities from all over the world in the field of energy, state-of-the-art technologies and best practices that promote the concept of sustainability.

"Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 seeks to diversify sources of energy, reduce energy consumption in Dubai by 30% by 2030, and divert from fossil-fuel energy to eco-friendly sources," said Al Tayer.

"Dubai is concerned with all activities related to energy sustainability. We realize the importance of reducing carbon emissions at the international level. This can be clearly seen through our adopting various important initiatives that conserve resources and promote sustainability. One of these initiatives is the long-term national initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai, to build a green economy in the UAE under the theme "Green Economy for Sustainable Development," which highlights the importance of the strategy of reducing our carbon footprint. This initiative will help the Emirate of Dubai in the long run and preserve the environment. To support this, Dubai Carbon Centre of Excellency was formed in 2010," added Al Tayer.

The DSCE delegation has briefed the other delegations participating in the Rio+20 Earth Summit on Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park, and also promoted the Dubai Global Energy Forum (DGEF) 2013, which will be held in Dubai from 15th to 17th of April 2013 in conjunction with the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2013, as well as the Emirates Energy Award.
