  • USA: Tuesday, May 07 - 2013 at 05:24

Google is planning to introduce a subscription service for some high-quality YouTube channels to raise revenue from sources beyond advertising and to help spur more professional video production, Financial Times has reported, citing people familiar with the plan. The move, which could be announced as early as this week, will apply to as many as 50 YouTube channels. Viewers will be able to subscribe to each channel for as little as $1.99 a month, enabling channel operators to produce different content, such as TV shows and films, one source said.
