Zain Jordan has said the growing use of the internet to send messages and make local and international calls in the kingdom is negatively impacting telecom companies' revenues, Jordan Times has reported. "The number of mobile holders using the Internet to make phone calls and send SMSs and MMSs is on the rise, which is affecting revenues generated by telecom companies," said Ahmad Al Hanandeh, the CEO of Zain Jordan. He said about 6-7% of internet subscribers in the kingdom use VoIP apps such as WhatsApp, BBM, Tango, Viber, Skype among others. VoIP is a free of charge service in Jordan.
