Zenith joins parent company to exhibit and present at Middle East Artificial Lift Forum

  • PRESS RELEASE

Zenith Oilfield Technology is preparing to exhibit with its US parent company Lufkin Industries for the first time at the Middle East Artificial Lift Forum (MEALF) in Abu Dhabi.

Zenith has become a key component of Lufkin's Automation group following acquisition in early 2012. The company will also present two technical papers on its latest cutting edge technology at the event.

The Aberdeenshire-based firm operates in the artificial lift sector of the global oil and gas industry and designs, assembles and supports industry leading solutions for the gathering and analysis of downhole data and the design of completions equipment.

Zenith has been a regular exhibitor and presenter at MEALF which is taking place 5 - 7 February. The company's New Technology Manager Julian Cudmore, will present a case study on advanced Progressing Cavity Pump (PCP) gauge technology detailing benefits delivered during installation and commissioning and results of a successful project in a well in the south of Oman.

The paper highlights a number of reasons for production loss and lift inefficiency in a PCP lifted well, particularly the consequences of incorrect positioning of the pump rotor. It advocates deployment of a real-time downhole rotor position measurement tool to ensure the optimum location of the rotor inside the stator.

Details of a new ESP gauge technology, immune to cable ground faults, will be presented in Zenith's second paper by Dave Shanks, Development Manager. The presentation will outline the product, proving trials and field trial experience.

Zenith's acquisition by Lufkin last year has allowed the company to significantly invest in research and development and bring more patented products to market. It has developed a range of innovative technologies for artificial lift and has successfully grown its turnover to more than £26 million, with the majority of contracts coming from the Middle and Far East.

"We are very much looking forward to exhibiting with Lufkin for the first time at MEALF. The acquisition has brought new life to our business both through our international offering and technology advances in artificial lift and downhole tools and services," said Greg Davie, General Manager of Zenith Oilfield Technology. "Artificial lift is crucial to increasing production and we have developed a range of technologies to monitor and analyse downhole data, making these operations as efficient as possible. The forum is the ideal opportunity for both companies to share developments and experiences in this area."

The white paper entitled "Case Study: An advanced downhole PCP gauge provides accurate rotor space out in a PCP well" will be presented by Julian Cudmore, New Technology Manager at Zenith, at 11:30 on 6 February. The second paper, "New ESP Gauge technology that operates with cable ground faults", will be presented by Dave Shanks, Development Manager, at 10:30 on 7 Feb.
