Abu Dhabi adopts new standards for TB control

Health Authority Abu Dhabi has announced the implementation of Directly Observed Treatment standards for tuberculosis control across the emirate, Gulf News has reported. The move is part of an effort to reduce by 50% the prevalence of TB and deaths caused by the disease by 2015, and eliminate TB as a public health problem. According to HAAD's 2010 statistics, 450 cases of pulmonary TB, which affects the lungs, and 175 cases of extra-pulmonary TB, which affects various organs in the body, were registered in the emirate of Abu Dhabi.
