Abu Dhabi issues licences for 47 new schools

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has awarded 47 licences to private investors to set up new schools offering various curricula, including British, American, Arabic and Indian, increasing the private sector capacity by 50,000 to 60,000 additional seats in the next two years, Khaleej Times has reported. The regulator is also considering 57 more applications in an effort to sustain the growing demand for places and to regulate the market by increasing the school supply over demand. There are currently 181 private schools operating across the Abu Dhabi emirate and more 170,000 enrolees for the new academic year.
